Depending on your location in the world, you, like me, are probably in the employ of some reputable company from nine to five, five days a week, 48 weeks a year.  Do you have plans to do that for 30/40/50 years?  I don’t.

I was fortunate enough to be able to take 12 months off a few years ago to do with whatever I wanted.  I travelled, I studied, I had fun in pubs.  I didn’t realise it at the time but I was also fortunate enough that those 12 months had planted the seed of change for my life.  They gave me an attitude problem*.  I want it all really.  I want the green pastures of fun and flexibility where I have the time and money to pursuit all those things I want to try and ditching the nine to five.

At the time of writing however, those greener pastures are still being identified and cultivated.  Metaphors aside, I’m venturing into the world of entrepreneurial pursuits.  Preconceptions and connotations of the word entrepreneur aside, I’m going to find things to do that will allow me to achieve my goal.  Let’s be blunt, I’m not feeling like I’m going to get rich (life rich) heading to the office each day**.  I’m going to take the leap with my limited mental resources, time and money to pave my own way.  Inspiring huh?

So, as it seems that any good entrepreneur needs to become a franchise, I’m starting early.  I’m pre-empting the obligatory book deal through the beauty of the Internet and blogging (very 2003) before I’ve even got any entrepreneurial credentials.  I plan to regale all you illustrious readers of the adventures, experiences and learnings along the way.  Maybe you’ll even be inspired to try it yourself.

* It has been alleged that I have an aversion to authority but it’s only evident if someone tells me what to do.

**Here’s some other random reasons I want to get away from the office:

• - Because I’m not getting paid for the answering the eternal question – how was your weekend.
• - Working with and for people who lack passion or simply have a passion for protecting their comfort zone.
• - Repetition, repetition, repetition. I just thought it was the key to good comedy.
• - It’s all a big game really. I’m just not particularly attracted to the corporate game. Even less so with all the potential in the world!
